That communication is a critical skill for engineers has become a counter cliche….but how relevant is it really? Some interesting research from Interviewing.io on how low scores on communication had least impact on negative assessment; in other words, if you were going to score low on one attribute for an engineering job, then communication would be it. Finding it Hard to Get a New Job? Robot Recruiters Might be to Blame

Journalists are expert writers not experts on the topics they write about. Therein lies misinformation at the heart of our informational eco-system, produced by institutions who have most power to amplify. One of a long line of articles on ‘rejected by a robot’ journalistic pieces, which, whilst not technically inaccurate, still manages to mislead. I’m filing this piece under CX because misrepresentation may lead to complaints on assessment technology that you might need to pre-emptively handle.

Housing Demand and Remote Work

Why is academic research presented as a form of mathematics? The inaccessibility of academic research provides an informational gap, which inevitably gets plugged by journalists with ads to sell. Someone could do a much better job of communicating the message in this research on the impact of remote work on housing demand by the National Bureau of Economic Research, which is that remote work actually increased house prices on aggregate, mainly in ‘Zoom’ towns, whilst city centres have yet to lose commensurate value.

I’m back in London, after a couple weeks and a few amazing events in Berlin and New York.
