I called my mother this morning, like I do every morning, and was reminded that just over a year ago, we took the collective decision to relocate her from the UK to Hong Kong on more or less the last flight out before lockdown. We felt her personal health - and her personal safety - would be better served in a small village in rural HK rather than in a mega city that is London, in the UK.
A responsible society must ensure all members of that society equally feel safe and secure in the public spaces that we share in common. This needs to be irrespective of gender, ethnicity, religion or personal identification. We need to do better, and the responsibility falls heaviest on those who suffer insecurity the least. To my fellow men, that is usually us.
