Untangling the HR Tech Market 2021
This is the sort of deck which confirms Josh Bersin as the premier commentator of HR transformation in the enterprise. If Mary Meeker did HR, it would basically look like this. This is as much about scope as about accuracy - really is a must read for everyone. Download it here. H/T brainfooder Pedro Oliveira for the share ECONOMY

Outrageous Predictions 2021
The headlines are more outrageous than the body of these predictions, which - whilst being far out - are not surreal. Great reading to kick off the year, especially if you care about macro trends that have cascade effects on the work we do in recruiting & HR. Interactive website here, downloadable PDF here

7 Ways HR Will Look Different in 2021
Optimistic notes for 2021 from one of the big inspirations for our community last year, brainfooder Lars Schmidt. Have a read of these 7 points here, and make sure to contrast with Dr J’s more pessimistic look further below. Also watch out for Lars’ fireside chat series - looks like a fantastic virtue tour to follow this year. RECRUITMENT OPERATIONS

The Brexit Deal
Outstanding thread on the impact of the UK/EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA). You can read the full text here (which amusingly and alarmingly makes reference to long defunct technology services like Netscape and Mozilla Mail in what seems to be a case of legal copy pasting), and maybe also follow George Riddell, whose amazingly useful thread this is. Brainfooder Neil Carberry of the Recruitment & Employers Confederation, makes this industry specific observation. ECONOMY

Andy Foote's LinkedIn Predictions for 2021
There’s a reason why Andy Foote is my favourite LinkedIn commentator - he somehow makes it fun to read about LinkedIn. This 11 pager for what LinkedIn are going to do in the next 12 months is well researched, potentially significant speculation. Have a read. Btw: Andy is joining Brainfood Live as special guest on the 29th January to talk Linkedin, so make sure to register. CONTENT MARKETING

Surprising Talent Management Predictions For 2021
Dr. John Sullivan is not as prolific as he once was, but when he does produce commentary it is always worth paying attention to. This short prediction piece starts off with a firework, HR’s paternalistic overreach. Definitely brainfood for us - have a read. H/T to brainfooder Martin Poole for the share RECRUITMENT OPERATIONS

Hootsuite Social Trends 2021
Must read annual report from Hootsuite, particularly relevant for those of use who work in employers who have strong consumer facing brands. The focus on customer acquisition is the obvious marketing priority for 2021, but attribution - as ever - is going to be a persistent challenge. Unsurprising main message? Multi-channel, omni-channel - and listen to the audience. EMPLOYER BRANDING

Developer Happiness Index 2021
An aggregation of a number of reports and data sets on developer sentiment - specifically how happy they are, whose countries developers are most (un)happy and what might make them this way. Fascinating….and I suspect useful for ambitious employers looking for source sites for global tech recruiting campaigns. Have a read here. TALENT INTELLIGENCE

Do You Love Me?
…. would be rather weird if you did, but this is not about you and I it’s about a Boston Dynamics robots dancing a New Year celebration to The Contours 1962 hit. The motor control is amazing, especially if you compare to 10 years ago. The robot workforce is here. WORKFORCE AUTOMATION

20 Big Ideas that will shape the world in 2021
Excellent piece of crowdsourcing from LinkedIn: some interesting projections: travel industry going subscription route, conversion of commercial to residential real estate, the arrival of the 3-2-2 working week. Have a read here
PS: great to see local hoteliers Citizen M and Hoxton mention in this - would prob subscribe to a use anywhere anytime service. FUTURE OF WORK

Five Trends for the 2020s
Going to complete the brainfood segment with some longer term projections; this essay from David Mattin is well worth a read, especially on the idea of businesses being ‘public goods’ and embracing uber transparency as default. It’s great marketing folks, maybe the only one that can regain trust. Have a read

Big List of Women Speakers
What’s on in 2021? No idea is the only answer, so that big list is not being updated until event organisers have some confidence to start putting on stuff again. So online only, and which case I thought it would be a good moment to reshare the updated Big List of Women Speakers. Go here first if you are running a webinar, online event or panel of any type.
Note: Women members of the brainfood - if you’re not on this list and want to be, add yourself to the bottom of the list and I’ll merge in

The News You Missed in 2020, From Every Country in the World
Wendover Productions produce infrequent but high quality videos, mainly on history and geopolitics, These two end of the year review videos are excellent, because they talk about everything that happened that wasn’t about Covid-19. Part 1 and Part 2 - probably the last review of the year piece you’re going to want to ingest. VIDEO

How to Vaccinate the World
The light at the end of the Covid tunnel is the successful trials of multiple vaccines which are now being rolled out to the global population. The key adjective is global - nobody is safe until everybody is safe. Bill Gates on a BBC podcast on the logistical challenge of doing it - 30 minutes good listen. PODCAST

I’m still in London folks, getting obsessed by Beat Saber in VR. My excuse is that it’s a workout and a good way to get fit indoors during lockdown but the thought has occurred to me that maybe I just like dancing to K-Pop whilst pretending to be Darth Vader. A problem? Have a great week everybody. Hung
